What does “being trans” mean?

There are many definitions of what it means to be transgender. For most people it is very personal. Some consider a trans person to only be a specific way e.g. want to or have had SRS. This and this alone will only make a transgender person a true transgender person. Some people on the other hand consider being trans as just being able to idenitfy as transgender regardless of whether they transition or not.

But none of this really answers the question of “what does being trans mean” or “what is transgender?”

In my opinion a transgender person is someone who feels that they were born into the wrong biological sex. They feel they should have been born the opposite sex or somewhere in between. For me there are different gradients of feeling like this. Not everyone who is transgender will need or want to transition- but a large proportion probably will. Some will want to transition but don’t for various social, financial, emotional, pyschological and familial reasons. Of those who do transition some will be able to transition at a young age, which is becoming more and more common, and some will transition at age 70.

Being transgender does not mean you are gay, weird, a biological abomination, crazy, have asbergers, are sterile or anything like that.

I am not going to enter into any debate about what it is to be transgender. This is just my opinion.
